Academic Reading generally requires a higher number of correct answers to achieve the same band score compared to General Training Reading.
To score higher, candidates should adopt effective reading strategies. Skimming the passage first helps in understanding the overall theme, while scanning allows candidates to locate specific information quickly. Reading questions carefully before searching for answers prevents unnecessary re-reading of the text. Understanding paraphrasing is crucial, as the wording in questions rarely matches the text exactly.
Time management is critical. Candidates should avoid reading every word in detail and instead focus on targeted reading. Since there is no extra transfer time, answers should be written accurately as the test progresses. Checking spelling, grammar, and word limits is essential, as even minor errors can lead to lost marks.
