IELTS Reading: Comparison Between General Training and Academic Tests

The IELTS Reading test differs significantly between General Training (GT) and Academic candidates, although both are designed to assess reading comprehension accurately and fairly. The differences lie mainly in text types, difficulty level, purpose, and band score conversion, while the marking process itself remains objective and standardised.

In terms of content and purpose, IELTS Academic Reading focuses on academic and analytical texts. Passages are taken from books, journals, research articles, and scholarly magazines, and they often contain complex arguments, abstract ideas, and technical vocabulary.
